CARSON CITY, NV – As the nation patiently awaits the results of the 2020 election between President Donald Trump and Vice President Joe Biden, elections officials in Nevada are confirming that results from the statewide election will be tallied in a matter of just a few short weeks.
“I know people are eager to get the results, but it’s just going to take some time,” explained Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske. “We only have the two ladies qualified to count the ballots, and they literally have hundreds of thousands of them to sift through. We’re hoping to have everything counted by Thanksgiving or the beginning of December at the latest.”
With 6 electoral votes, Nevada hasn’t been in the limelight in terms of presidential elections as much as states like Florida, Michigan, and Ohio. That may change this year as it becomes clear that the race between Biden and Trump is tightening.
Facing mounting pressure from voters and the media, Cegavsky has pledged to release updated results every morning at 10am.
“We have [ballot girls] Diane [Sharkey] and Roberta [Taylor] working 8 hours a day counting. At this pace, we’re confident we can tally two or three thousand ballots daily, putting us on pace to be done by Christmas,” said Cagavske, adding “New Years at the latest.”
A spokesman for Clark County, Steve Hill, told BeetPress “as the saying goes, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Now people are expecting the vote count to leave Vegas, which isn’t something we’re used to. Please have some patience, enjoy a meal at any one of our five-star restaurants, have some fun at the casino, or take in a stellar show. There’s no shortage of exciting activities in fabulous Las Vegas.”
As of press time, BeetPress has learned that Roberta will be taking a pre-scheduled vacation next week to visit her sister Doris in Lake Havasu City, which may delay the final vote count until some time after the inauguration.
