Ellen Invites God Hates Fags People to Carve Pumpkins

LOS ANGELES, CA – Ellen DeGeneres, comedian and host of the Ellen DeGeneres Show, got into the holiday spirit this week by carving pumpkins with several of the God Hates Fags people.

“I love Halloween, and I always love getting into the holiday spirit with special people. This year our friends traveled all the way from Topeka, Kansas,” Ellen explained to her studio audience before welcoming members of the Westboro Baptist Church to the stage.

DeGeneres and the church members touched on a variety of light-hearted topics over the course of the seven minute segment including the weather, favorite types of pie, the rivalry between Kansas State and the University of Kansas football teams, as well as Halloween costumes, with Ellen joking, “I really like the Israeli flag splattered in blood you’re wearing. I almost wore the same thing, wouldn’t that have been embarrassing?”

The church member’s response of “rot in Hell you Jew Hollywood dyke” drew thunderous applause and laughter from the audience.

After the taping, DeGeneres told BeetPress, “it was pretty serendipitous that we were able to get the them on the show. We were supposed to have Steve Spangler on, but he had a last-minute scheduling conflict and the Westboro Baptist Church folks just happened to be in town protesting Rip Taylor’s funeral.”

DeGeneres further explained “at first people were upset, asking why is a famous gay liberal hanging out with a group known for their inflammatory hate speech against the LBGTQ community and for protesting at the funerals of soldiers, but I’m friends with a lot of people. Just because we don’t share the same beliefs, or that they want all gays to burn in eternal Hell doesn’t mean we can’t get together, have fun, and carve some jack-o-lanterns.”

Many have offered praise to DeGeneres, including Twitter user @matthew_Oooo, who tweeted “Seeing Ellen and the God hates fags people together makes me have faith in America again.”
